There are three types of grout: cement-based, furan resin, and epoxy. Cement-based grout is the most commonly used type, and is found in a variety of commercial buildings. Cement is porous, which means that stains can more easily penetrate the surface and cause staining. So when dirt turns into mud and penetrates into grout, it may permanently alter the color.
